Ventura County Weather: Everything you need to know (2024)

Are you tired of frying your egg on your driveway? Or worse, on top of your head? With heat waves scorching the country, it's easy to feel like there's nowhere to escape. But fear not! Ventura County might just be your cool oasis. Let's dive in and see why.

Heat waves have been getting worse. They’re happening more often, lasting longer, and hitting harder than ever before. Scientists say it’s only going to get hotter. By mid-century, temperatures could climb 5 degrees, and by the end of the century, a whopping 10 degrees! Yikes! Looking at those numbers, I’m really glad we live in Ventura County and not Florida.

One big reason we love living in Oxnard is the weather. So, let’s break down the county and see what it’s like right now.

Ventura County Weather Breakdown
Currently, Oxnard is a balmy 66 degrees. Just a few days ago, I took some clients to the beach, and one of them said, "Wow, it's chilly here!"

To help you picture the weather across Ventura County, we’ll look at temperature, humidity, and wind. These three things really change how it feels to live somewhere.

This is just a sample of one day to give you an idea of how temperatures can vary across the county.

Oxnard:

Beachfront: 66 degrees
Dock Homes: 67 degrees
My Neighborhood: 68-69 degrees
North Oxnard: 72 degrees (Wagon Wheel) to 73-74 degrees (River Park)
Port Hueneme area: 67-69 degrees
Oxnard outskirts: 71-72 degrees

Ventura:

Pierpont: 69-68 degrees
Custom Homes: Beautiful views and dolphin watching! Temps around 72-73 degrees
Hillside: 71-72 degrees
Westside: 72-75 degrees
Montalvo: 73 degrees
College: 73-74 degrees
East Ventura: Almost 78 degrees near the new Shea Homes in the Saticoy area
Santa Paula: It gets hotter as you head inland. Temperatures are around 84 degrees, but it feels even hotter in the newer neighborhoods without established trees.

Fillmore: Similar to Santa Paula, but with some cooler spots in the older, tree-lined areas. Temps around 95 degrees.

Santa Clarita: While not technically in Ventura County, many people ask about it. It's hotter than Ventura County due to less tree cover and more ozone.

Ojai: Temperatures climb as you head up. Be prepared for hot hikes and bring water for your furry friends!

Camarillo: Around 79 degrees, but it varies depending on the area. Closer to the airport, it's 75-76 degrees. Leisure Village is around 82 degrees, and the new construction near Aneaka Canyon is quite hot.

Somis: A small town near Camarillo with a similar climate.

Moorpark: Around 88 degrees. It's hot, but there are lots of trees and great coffee shops.

Simi Valley: The hottest city in Ventura County, but still cooler than Santa Clarita or Las Vegas.

Thousand Oaks: Temperatures around 84 degrees in the lower areas and climb to around 90 degrees as you head towards the mountains.

Newberry Park: Surprisingly, it's a bit cooler than Camarillo. Around 82-83 degrees.

Westlake Village: Split between Ventura and LA counties, with temperatures around 86-87 degrees.

Humidity and Wind
While Ventura County is known for its mild climate, humidity and wind can affect how you feel. Some areas, like Thousand Oaks, have higher humidity, which can be a problem for people with asthma. And if you hate windy days, stick to the beach in the mornings. Newberry Park can get quite windy.

"When we looked at homes together, they took us out into local grocery stores and parks, and Keziah sparked conversations to introduce us to the locals and neighbors. This allowed us to ask questions about the area that could not be answered on a home-buying app or even by other realtors. We were getting honest responses from the actual people who lived there. That feedback was very valuable and helpful!" --Amanda Gurrola (google, Jan 2024)
