Why We Fell in Love with Ventura County: The Best Spots, Experiences, and Lifestyle Highlights
Ventura County: A Love Story
When we first moved to Ventura County from Colorado, it was like falling in love all over again. Initially, we were drawn to its charm, but as time passed, our appreciation grew deeper, much like finding "the one." Every day, we discover something new that makes living here even more rewarding.
A Climate Like No Other
The weather in Ventura County is nothing short of spectacular. Coming from Denver, where winters can be harsh, we were delighted to find a temperate climate that ranges from the 60s to the 80s. Even on gray days during "May Gray" or "June Gloom," you can head to sunny spots like Fillmore or Thousand Oaks. Want to cool down? The coastal cities offer the perfect escape.
Beaches That Take Your Breath Away
Ventura County’s beaches were a big reason we moved here. Hollywood Beach is a personal favorite, offering expansive sandy stretches where you can walk your dog or simply enjoy the solitude. Rincon Beach, with its stunning views of the Channel Islands and excellent surfing, is another gem.
Farm-Fresh Paradise
Ventura County is a haven for food lovers. The farmers' markets are brimming with fresh, locally grown produce. You can even visit organic farms to pick your own blueberries or other fruits. The variety of fruits, like dragon fruit and passion fruit, is extraordinary. Plus, many residents share the bounty from their own backyards—avocados, tangerines, oranges, and more!
Gardeners’ Dream Destination
For those with a green thumb, Ventura County is paradise. From plant nurseries in Somis and Moorpark to local stores like Green Thumb in Ventura, the options are endless. Growing your own fruits and vegetables feels so much easier here, and it’s a joy to see your garden thrive year-round.
Hiking and Outdoor Adventures
The hiking opportunities in Ventura County are unparalleled. The Santa Monica Mountains National Park near Newbury Park offers an 8-mile trail that leads to the ocean. Arroyo Verde Park is another favorite, featuring dog-friendly trails, vibrant wildflowers, and breathtaking views. After a rainy winter, the wildflowers create a magical jungle-like setting.
Ventura Botanical Gardens and Serra Cross
For plant enthusiasts, the Ventura Botanical Gardens are a must-visit. The variety of flora, paired with panoramic views of the ocean and Channel Islands, is awe-inspiring. At the Serra Cross atop Ventura, the scenery is equally breathtaking, offering a perfect spot to reflect and appreciate the beauty of the area.
Community and Small-Town Charm
What sets Ventura County apart is its warm and welcoming community. From farmers’ markets to local events, people are friendly and eager to connect. The small businesses here are full of creativity and passion, offering unique products and experiences that reflect the area's vibrant spirit.
Outdoor Activities for Every Enthusiast
Whether it’s paddleboarding, surfing, or simply walking along the beach, there’s always something to do outdoors. On many occasions, we’ve spotted dolphins playing in the waves—a magical sight you’ll never forget.
Unique Bucket List Adventures
For thrill-seekers, Ventura County offers unforgettable experiences like ultralight sky rides with Sky Rider. Flying over Camarillo with no walls around you is exhilarating and provides breathtaking views.
An Active and Sociable Lifestyle
From pickleball leagues to theater groups, Ventura County offers activities for everyone. Residents here love to include newcomers, making it easy to join in and make friends.
Hi there, we are Bart and Keziah
When helping our customers buy and sell real estate — it’s all about using our experience, effective communication and teamwork to simplify the process and get the best results for you.
Give us a call/text/email. Let’s have a short talk. Absolutely no pressure. Let's figure out if we will be a good fit to work together.
"When we looked at homes together, they took us out into local grocery stores and parks, and Keziah sparked conversations to introduce us to the locals and neighbors. This allowed us to ask questions about the area that could not be answered on a home-buying app or even by other realtors. We were getting honest responses from the actual people who lived there. That feedback was very valuable and helpful!" --Amanda Gurrola (google, Jan 2024)
